IRONMAN SUCCESS FOR ED BARRETT

Last updated: Friday, 23rd September 2016, 14:41

Emma Carpenter of Upper Sapey has successfully completed the Welsh Ironman Challenge in Tenby on 18th September to raise money for 27-yeare-old Ed Barrett of Bromyard who is confined to a wheelchair following a fall while competing in a point-to-point race in April 2015. Ed was employed as a jockey until he broke his neck and Emma (47) undertook her formidable challenge in a bid to raise funds for him. She swam 2½ miles, cycled 112 miles and ran a full marathon.

“Well my job is done! I completed the Iron Man Wales on Sunday in 15 hours and 15 minutes. Faster than anticipated!" says Emma. "It was an amazing day and with the presence of Ed and his family also emotional. I cannot thank you all enough for all your generosity and support. The total is nearing £10,000 including the Just Giving page, absolutely amazing. This will help give Ed the freedom to make some choices with regard to his next move. Maybe trying some sports at Stoke Mandeville? Getting a dog? Setting up home? Lots to think about. Mission so far completed!”

“Every little bit, however small will help Ed towards gaining some independence and setting up home,” says Emma. “You can go to my fundraising page crowdfunding.”   www.justgiving.com/welshironmanforedbarrett
