VELO CYCLE RACE RE-ROUTED AWAY FROM CLIFTON

Last updated: Friday, 30th June 2017, 10:06

The route of the 15,000 strong Velo Birmingham bike race in September will not now pass through Clifton and the surrounding Teme Valley roads following a meeting between the organisers and Worcestershire County Council….

The Council had originally agreed that the B4204 through Clifton could be closed for most of the day to allow the race to take place safely. However, the plan has proved unpopular locally with many people arguing that they will effectively be trapped in their homes and business owners have said they will be unable to open for the day.

The route has now been changed so that participating cyclists travel from Birmingham to Great Witley and then return via Holt Heath to Birmingham on Sunday, September 24.

“This is a great result for everyone living in the Teme Valley area, especially those who would have been affected by the proposed road closures,” said County Councillor Ken Pollock.
